Potty Train More Than One Child At The Same Time
With twins, triplets, and more, there are many more trials, just as there are many more joys. One of the trials you'll face will be potty training. There are a few important things you should keep in mind when potty training multiple children that may help you hold on to a little bit of your sanity along the way.
First of all, while many twins and triplets are very much alike, they are also very much different. Each of your children is an individual and one of the things you should keep in mind is that they will achieve different milestones at different points in their lives.
In other words, one of your children may take to potty training much more effectively from the beginning than the other. Don't be alarmed - this isn't a sign of a developmental delay, but if you need reassurance, feel free to talk to your child's pediatrician.
You'll hear all kinds of wonderful and well-meaning advice, but the important thing is to go with your gut and your maternal or paternal instincts. It's a good idea to purchase a potty for each of your children rather than having them share one potty. It will save a few gray hairs by not needing to mediate fights over who's going to sit on the potty along with the struggles of getting them to go in the potty in the first place.
Another thing you might want to keep in mind when it comes to potty training, especially with multiples, is that while overalls and one piece suits are darling on your toddlers, they aren't friendly when it comes to training one toddler to use the potty, let alone more than one.
Can you imagine snapping, unsnapping, buckling, and unbundling two, three, or more children every hour or so in order to allow an opportunity to go in the potty? With girls, it can be effective to potty train in warmer moths, when they can don dresses and bloomers or two-piece sets that don't snap on the bottom. You want your children to have an easy time getting to the potty so that they aren't overly frustrated by accidents and near misses.
Potty training your children can be a trying time, but these techniques will aid in making the process go much more smoothly. Just remember that despite the trials and failures - you will have twice as many successes along the way.
