Signs Your Child Is Ready to Potty Train
While many of us look for the writing on the wall when it comes to our child being ready to potty train, there are a few subtle signs that he or she is ready to take that giant leap forward with fast potty training methods.
You should remember that despite many signs, each child will achieve the ultimate goal of potty training in his or her own time, so don't be discouraged if your little one isn't an overnight success when it comes to learning how to use the potty.
You should also keep in mind that if you have any doubts or think your child should be ready when he or she isn't showing any of these signs, you should always discuss your concerns with your child's pediatrician.
Here are some signs that potty training time has arrived:
Your toddler can stay dry for two-hour periods of time and through his or her naps. This indicates that your little one is capable of ‘holding it' for periods of time and a good signal that he or she is capable of potty training and quite possibly ready for it.
He or she should be able to pull his or her clothes up and down in order to facilitate potty training. This is not necessarily an indication that your little one is interested in potty training though training will be difficult without it.
If your little one can't tolerate the thought of sitting in a soiled or wet diaper then he or she is probably sending some clear signals that now is a good time to begin the potty training process.
Another good indicator is if your child begins soiling his or her diaper at or around the same time every day. This means you can anticipate the need for a potty and be on the lookout at certain times every day and that he or she may be able to more easily recognize and associate that feeling with the need for a potty.
If your little one shows a great interest in other people going to the bathroom, he or she is giving you a fairly good indication that they're ready to take that next step for him or herself. The greater the interest and curiosity, the more likely they are truly ready for this next step.
If your child displays a strong interest in wearing big girl or boy underwear, he or she is letting you know that that they're ready to at least begin the process.
Last but not least, if your child is tugging on and pulling off wet or soiled diapers on his or her own, that is a very good sign that they are aware of what is going on enough that they are ready to begin potty training.
Now that your child is ready, you need to make certain you are ready to take on the task? It can be a horrible experience or painless. The difference is mostly in knowing which method is the best match for your child.
